On the 15th of June the Bedrijvenestafette will be held, an exciting running race that is known to be a true Texel Traditional among several marine research institutions and local businesses. So do not hesitate and register.

Think of the annual Oxford and Cambridge University Boat Race, an overcrowded orange athletics track in Den Burg acting as a substitute to the river Thames. The big prize? Cheering crowds, eternal fame, a fresh pie and new funding for ‘AV Texel’.

30 teams competing

The Bedrijvenestafette started in 2001 as a means to financially support the local athletics sports club. The annual relay run is a celebration of running to marines, business groups, and school teams ever since. Most teams are comprised of recreational runners, some teams are quite competitive. The last few years over 30 teams have entered the race.

NIOZ Ladies undefeated

As leading employers on Texel the Royal NIOZ, IMARES and Ecomare have given the relay run a face in the past decade –building a race in the race. The Royal NIOZ ladies team is undefeated for nine straight years, while most male relay teams under the Royal NIOZ flag have been finishing within the top 3.

Share your running skills

To make sure the anniversary run on June the 15th will again be coloured orange and blue we invite you to register to the Bedrijvenestafette. Help us beat our fellow researchers and at the same time celebrate running in a classic island race.

No running experience? The Bedrijvenestafette is open to all levels. Depending on how many people register, NIOZ runners can be allocated to several teams (according to experience level and individual preferences). We are glad to help you with preparations and provide you with tips on how to approach your 800m race(s).
