NEW DUTCH SCIENCE FOUNDATION TO IMPROVE COLLABORATION
As of January 1, the Royal NIOZ officially is a proud part of the Dutch NWO-I, a new and independent organisation that focuses on creating a better position to respond to developments in science and society. Extra flexibility, more efficiency, better multidisciplinary collaboration.
While the ‘Royal’ name and logo of NIOZ remain trusted emblems of our research institute and quality, all rights and obligations that apply to working at NIOZ since January 1 have been transferred to NWO-I, the Netherlands Foundation of Scientific Research Institutes.
NWO-I has arisen from the Foundation for Fundamental Research on Matter (FOM). The institute, an independent foundation residing under the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO), contains the former FOM institutes AMOLF, ARCNL, DIFFER and Nikhef, as well as more than 200 university workgroups from former FOM projects.
Since January 1, ASTRON, CWI, NIOZ, NSCR and SRON officially joined as NWO Institutes, the end of a merger that will create a more effective NWO organisation, with a greater multidisciplinary research focus across-the-board.
‘Integration of very diverse procedures into one outstanding and complete NWO-I regulatory system will actually create the flexibility to further simplify procedures in all research institutes. Science will profit, precisely the reason NWO started this transformation process in 2015’, says Willeke Nederlof, Head of HRM at the Royal NIOZ.
